It is a long, slow process but we have a new chance to keep the pressure up by handing in our petition. With recent cabinet and government reshuffles, we need to take every possible opportunity to ensure that all decision-makers hear our call.

Bringing our petition to the attention of the government helped ensure strong recommendations when the inquiry report into a Modern Slavery Act was published last December.[1] We need to keep the pressure up at each step of the way so that the consumer power of Australia[2] can be mobilized to help bring an end to modern slavery.
Our partners in Australia, Stop the Traffik, will be in Australia’s capital Canberra next week ready to hand-in the Freedom United petition with the Be Slave Free Network.
Together we have reached out to newly appointed Ministers in the new Home Affairs Department, who we expect will be tasked with leading on the government’s work on modern slavery.
Organizations and businesses all over the world are watching to see what will happen in Australia.
Let’s make sure a robust new law sets new standards for companies to report on modern slavery in their supply chains.
